WelcomeThe Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District), San Francisco, CA, initiated the Golden Gate Bridge Physical Suicide Deterrent System Project in fall 2006. On February 12, 2010, the Board of Directors voted unanimously (16 members present of the 19 member Board) to certify the Final Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Assessment and Section 4(F) Evaluation (FEIR/EA) for the Golden Gate Bridge Physical Suicide Deterrent System Project (Project) with Alternative 3, the Net System, as the Preferred Alternative. On July 28, 2010, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) allocated $5 million in federal grant funding to the District to complete the final design of the Golden Gate Bridge Suicide Deterrent Net System, which is estimated at $5 million. Funding to construct the Project (est. $45 million) is not identified, and current Board policy states that this funding will not come from Bridge toll revenues. Contributions towards this project may be sent to GGBHTD, P.O. Box 9000, Presidio Station, San Francisco, CA 94129, Attention: Accounting/Suicide Barrier.
